"When we deal with our problems, normally something else complicates it. For example, my being here suits us both, sorts out the problem of us being apart. But with me here, I put my father at more risk even though he is safe. I have to find ways to ensure Guy does not come after me, or the guards are not sent out. I guess that is just the way the world is. Never lets anyones life be completely what they want it to be."
She kept her eyes forward this time, straight at the forest. She had that fear that Guy would come for her, and would hurt not only her but Robin. But with his comforting weight around her, his chest against her back where she could feel the light beat of his heart reassured her. She was safe.

"It hardly seems fair. Can the world not see that everyone needs exactly what they want, from time to time? I suppose not."
At the mention of Gisborne, that is where Robin's attention stayed. Speaking with a strong determination, Robin gripped her tighter in his arms. "I will kill him if he tries to touch you again."

"I think it does," she said, giving him a meaningful look.
She felt his arms tighten around her, and she wondered what was wrong. That was until he spoke. Sighing, she shook her head, turning in his arms so she was facing him properly.
"And then what would be the difference between you both?"
She didn't like the thought of him becoming a heartless killer, even if she knew he had done such things in the Holy Land. But that was when it was thought to be neccessary. She just hoped he didn't think killing Guy was neccessary.

Robin shook his head. "How do you figure that? It does so by conspiring to make things as difficult as possible?"
Robin placed his hands on Marian's arms, almost holding her there. "We would be different because I would be acting to save another. When has he ever done anything but destroy everything he touches?"
"It would not be so great a loss, Marian. The world hardly needs a man like Gisborne in it." Watching her carefully, Robin wondered what she might say to these words, he knew she believed that somewhere inside him Gisborne contained some good. He simply could not see it. Even if part of that was because he refused to see it.

Marian sighed at his words, letting him hold her close to him. She knew how desperately both men hated each other, and sometimes she wondered if she was just a weapon used against the other man. After all, how was she to know if either man really cared for her when they both knew how much their enemy cared for her.
"I know you do not believe me but Guy is a good man. He can be a good man."
Marian looked at the ground, ready for his onslaught of angry words.

Robin looked at her in disbelief. "Marian how can you possibly say that? How can you even think it? All he has ever done is hurt innocent people for personal gain! He tortures people, he would keep you and your father locked away in the castle, he forced you to agree to marry him..."
Pausing, Robin looked at her as if daring her to prove him wrong. If so, he had a whole lot more in the way of examples.

"Robin I understand that he has done these things but i have seen how he can be without the influence of the Sheriff."
She had noticed his look, and had a feeling he would not let the subject go. Groaning, she stepped close so she could cup his cheek, making sure his eyes were on her.
"I am here with you. And whatever I may think of Guy, it means nothing. You are the one I have chosen to be with."

"I know, Marian, and I am grateful to have you so close. I can not ehlp but wonder, though."
Watching her face closely to guage her reaction, Robin asked the question which was often at the forefront of his thoughts.
"If I had not been forced to return from the Holy Land when I was, if things had gone differently, would you have chosen to marry him?"
He wanted to know the answer desperately, and yet at the same time he dreaded it.

Marian thought about his question, and for a moment she worried about her answer. What would she have done had he not returned? She knew the answer of course, but she didn't want to tell him. However, if she kept the truth from him, she knew it would only anger him more later.
"Not willingly," she answered honestly. "Eventually I would have had no choice but to accept, and my father often thought there were worse men out there. He would have pushed me towards Guy also. And it wouldn't have mattered what I wanted."

Robin nodded at her words.
"I see. Well, I suppose it would be foolish of me to think you could wait for me forever."
Dropping his hold on her arms, Robin gave her a cheeky grin. "Though I must say I will be forever grateful to Guy for stabbing me, if that is the case. If not for his violent ways, we might not be together now, my love."

"If I had the choice I would. But eventually my father would insist on a man he had chosen for me. After all, his approval of my first suitor was accurate."
She smiled a little as he spoke, missing the little contact he had when he had held her shoulders. But of course, there was that cheeky grin that she loved back in place.
"So now you're thanking him for being violent? I'll have to remember that."

"Well, only on that one occasion of course. Though not at the time, I have to say. It was not what you'd call a pleasant experience."
Laughing, Robin took her hand. "Though no amount of violence on his part will allow him to steal you away from me this time."

Marian looked down when he took her hand, unable to stop the smile on her face. Of course, she didn't like how that sounded. As if he was willing to risk any grave injury just for her.
"Because you will not allow him to hurt you. Really Robin, do not anger him he would have no worries over killing you. You are not exactly his favourite person."
Marian squeezed his hand tightly, showing her concern. Yes she knew there was a good side in him but when it came to Robin, there was nothing light about him.

Robin could only laugh at her concerns, which he considered pointless.
"He could not hurt me if he tried, Marian. And he has tried, many times. He shall always fail."
Reaching out, Robin touched his finger to her nose, winking. "You should not worry so much. It does not suit you. Leave the worrying to Much, he does enough for all of us."

Marian giggled, wrinkling her nose up when he tapped it. It was true, Much had always worried since they were children. Even about the things that were really not worth worrying about.
"I think that is a good idea. After all, as you said, he worries enough for all of us. And besides, I will not need to worry because I will be there as often as I can and will know you are alright."
