Grinning, Robin barely resisted the urge to laugh at her. In mock seriousness he spoke. "I am simply helping you become used to living in the forest, Marian."
Deciding to take pity on her, Robin made no move to pursue the reason they had begun this silly game of cat and mouse.
"Did you manage to get yourself lost so quickly?"

Marian refused to be brought in as a little lost girl, and stood her ground. Walking closer, she shook her head, looking around again.
"I certainly was not lost. I was only checking that you were not close by, or that I was being followed."
She kept her gaze on him as she spoke, ensuring he knew she wasn't lying. She was of course, and if he hadn't shown up she was sure she'd be wandering for a while, but she wasn't going to give him the satisfaction.

Robin nodded, placating her. "Very well. Tell me, which way would we go to get back to camp from here? Or perhaps even the stream? I would hear your methods of remembering which way you ran."
Pausing, Robin also cast his eyes about, pretending to search also for whatever it is she was looking for. "Can you find what you are looking for Marian? Perhaps something familiar to help you?"
He knew how much she hated to be wrong, almost as much as he himself did, and whilst he teased her, this was something she needed to learn, and so he wished to help her.

Marian frowned, slightly annoyed with him for a moment. He was going to make her prove that she knew where she was going, and she knew she couldn't. So she either made up a way and made a fool of herself...or admit it and make a fool of herself.
"Okay, I don't have a clue."
She couldn't look at him when she admitted it, knowing he'd have that smug 'I'm right' look on his face. It wasn't exactly her fault she didn't know, she hadn't exactly focused on where she was going when she was running.

Robin could of course not pass up the opportunity to give her a self satisfied smirk. Though he said nothing.
Moving to stand closer to her, Robin spoke. "Would you like me to tell you how to go about finding your way, Marian? Of course, if you feel you can do better yourself, by all means. I will leave you to it."

Marian bit her lip when he got closer, instinctively letting her arms wrap around him. She considered her options carefully, before shrugging.
"It would be helpful to know. But perhaps I wont leave your side, then I have no risk of being lost."
She knew that wouldn't happen, that she was very likely at some point to walk off. And probably get lost. So in the long run, it was best to know exactly where everything was.

"As much as that idea appeals to me, Marian, there are times we will be seperated. It is unavoidable. And we can not very well keep you tethered to camp by a large string so you may find your way back."
Moving to stand behind her, he placed his hands on her shoulders, mirroring the position from earlier by the stream, and leant down to speak very softly into her ear.
"Close your eyes, Marian, and focus on what you can hear."
He stopped speaking for a time, letting her do just that. "Do you hear it, Marian? It is quiet, but it is there. You simply have to give your ears a chance to find it." Robin was referring to the gentle gurgling sound the stream made in the distance as it splashed in a shallow section over the rocks.

Marian's eyes closed without her realising when he stepped closer, listening to him more than anything else. She found herself leaning back against him, leaning against his chest as she focused oh staying still and listening. She was getting frustrated, wondering what he was talking about, then she heard it in the distance.
"I can hear the stream," she whispered, somehow not wanting to ruin the moment. They were both calm, and everything was silent and all she could hear was the water, with the occasional chirp of a bird.

Robin smiled down at her when she leaned against him, wrapping his arms around her.
"Yes, Marian. You would be surprised how far the sound of it travels. Indeed, it is a good place to start if you ever find yourself lost. Make it back to the stream and you will find your way a lot more easily."
Everything had gone quiet around them, and still. The forest seemed to have paused, casting a spell upon them as they stood in the small clearing.

Marian kept her eyes closed, enjoying the closeness a bit too much, her hands going to cover his around her waist. She let her head fall back to lie on his chest.
"I'll keep it in mind," she said with a gentle smile.
She could stay like this forever if she had the option. Just with him and the gentle sounds of the forest, nothing to worry about. And in those moment, she enjoyed the calm while she could. She found her head nuzzling against him a little, her eyes staying closed as she listened to the distant sound of the stream.

As much as he loved Marian for her passion and for her fiery temper, Robin loved seeing her in moments like this, too. When she seemingly let her guard down.
Wrapping his arms around her more tightly, Robin spoke in a quiet, amused tone. "Marian, you look as if you might fall asleep there, standing. I hope I make a comfortable pillow for you."

Marian giggled, opening her eyes to look up at him. She knre that if she was lying down with him, she would have been asleep by now.
"You are very comfortable."
She entwined her fingers with his, smiling gently up at him. She knew her eyes were showing her feelings a bit too much, the love and respect she had for him. But at this moment, she didn't care. Didn't care about embarrassing herself or anything like that.

"I am pleased you think so." He answered her with a laugh, wrapping his fingers around hers.
Looking up at the canopy of trees above them, Robin released a quiet sigh. "It would be nice if things could always remain this way, would it not?"
Like Marian, he was at this particular moment not concerning himself with what she might be thinking of him. He was simply enjoying the moment.

"It really would. If we could just stay here, in the quiet and not have to worry about anything."
It sounded like the perfect world, just the two of them. The calmness of this part of the forest and not the hectic life of trying to save England. The perfect life they had hoped for when they were teens and were looking to a bright future.
"It would be perfect."

"Perfect." Robin laughed at her choice of words.
"I do not see anything being able to remain perfect anymore, Marian. It seems the further we get, the more complicated everything becomes. I would love for someone to explain to me why that must be so. It seems to me that things should become less complicated as we deal with them."
