"I did not insult you!"
How she had come to that conclusion, Robin did not know. He had simply made an observation in an attempt to help her possibly improve upon her already quite reasonable capabilities. She was being overly sensitive if she took that to be an insult.
When she called him 'Master of the bow', Robin's eyebrows rose even as a smug smile that he could not stop crossed his face. "So, you're willing to acknowledge that I might just have something to show you, and yet you throw my offer to help you back in my face?"
He dropped the bow and arrow at his feet, stepping back. "It's not going to happen, Marian. I'm not going to do something for you that at the same time lets you think you've won. You aren't always right you know."

"I always acknowledge you have something to show me."
The words did not come out as she intended, and she was glad of the distraction when he threw the bow to the floor. Shrugging, Marian decided she would pretend she did not care. She would not give in so easily. Bending, she picked up the bow and arrow, readying it to continue to practice.
Turning, she tried to keep calm, knowing that she was trying to hard to not give in to him.

Robin stepped back, crossing his arms and watching her. If she wanted to be childish, he wasn't going to stop her, and he certainly wasn't going to give in.
He watched her as she moved to fire again, biting his tongue, refusing to speak. No, she would have to be the one to ask.

Taking a deep breath, she fired the arrow, watching as it hit the oak just under where she had aimed. Well that was not bad, at least she managed to hit it.
"So what have I been doing wrong?" she asked, turning to face him, her eyebrow raised.
Yes she had missed where she had been aiming, but the arrow was still hit the oak and if that were someone she had now choice but to shoot at, she still would manage to hit them.

Robin stepped up behind her. "I'll show you."
He waited until she had brought the bow up, preparing to fire again, then brought his hands up on either side of her, changing the position of her arms slightly, and the way her hand was holding the string of the bow, reducing the number of fingers she had wrapped around it. Using one of his feet, he shifted hers slightly to change her stance, so that it was more relaxed. Then he spoke quietly in her ear. "Now...do it again."

Marian bit her lip when he stepped up close to her, his arms wrapping around her to change the way she was holding the bow and arrow. She did not argue, deciding to see if what he changed really made a difference. She was distracted for a moment when he whispered against her ear, but soon got herself focused. Looking at where she wanted to shoot, she released the arrow, amazed when it hit right on centre.
"I can't believe it."

Robin smiled, stepping back.
"Can not believe that you might be abe to shoot so well, or that I might just happen to know a thing or two about it?"
It was so like her, to be stubborn and refuse help, and then act suitably surprised when she realised it had done her more good than she had thought it would. She was worse than he was at accepting advice.

"Both," she said with a laugh, dropping her arm but keeping the bow in hand.
Turning to look at him, she grinned, clearly pleased with what she had done. Reaching forward, she kissed him lightly, before moving to pick up another arrow. She was determined to do it herself this time, prove to herself that she did not need Robin's help every time she wanted to use a bow and arrow.

He gave her a bemused look. "You should not be so shocked. I have done it a time or two, you know. Shown people how to shoot, helped them improve. I even shoot the occasional arrow myself, if you must know." He said the last bit like it was some closely guarded secret.
He grinned at the proud look on her face, kissing her back before crossing his arms and watching her prepare to fire again. He would let her do it herself this time. He knew it was important to her.

Rolling her eyes, she pushed him playfully. She felt young again, when she used to sit and watch Robin practice. She was always so amazed by his natural ability, and it had actually made her love him even more.
"I never would have guessed."
Moving into the position she had been in earlier, ensuring that she changed what Robin had changed, she prepared to release the arrow again. Smiling as she concentrated, she released the arrow, only for her smile to widen when she got it exactly where she aimed.

Robin smirked when she pushed him. "No? Well maybe I need to start showing off again. It has been a while, you know."
Unable to stop the delighted smile at seeing her success when she made her next shot, Robin placed his hands on her shoulders. He then pressed a kiss to her cheek. "See? I knew you could do it."

"It has been a while. Years before you left for the Holy Land."
Part of her wanted him to show off to her, because she found that as one of his ways to express his feelings for her. He was desperate for her to like him so he showed off to her. Leaning against him when his hands went to her shoulders, she could not help the smile when he kissed her cheek, showing such belief in her.
"Thanks."

"I was young then, Marian. Things were different. I very much doubt you would be impressed by showy behaviour now as you were back then."
He turned her in his arms, wrapping her in a hug. He did not think he would ever tire of holding her, knowing they did not have to hide. "You are up early today. Any particular reason?"

"You never know," she said with a cheeky smile.
She immediately dropped the bow when Robin turned her, holding her tightly against him. She smiled, leaning her head against his chest for a moment. It kept her calm, and made her feel safe.
"Just could not sleep after a while," she said with a light shrug.

"Oh? Well, perhaps some time soon I shall dazzle the lady with incredible feats with my bow."
He brought a hand up to the back of her head as she rested it against his chest. "It must be hard for you, getting used to sleeping in the forest, to the cold and the damp. And Much's cooking, of course."
