"That is not true. I do not complain all the time."
Wonderful, he thought. She was actually going to start taking him seriously. So typical that she could joke one minute only to become serious when she felt she had been slighted. "I was only teasing, Marian. Lighten up."

"You do when there is something to complain about."
She sighed when he told her he was only joking, her eyes going to the forest floor. Even if he was only teasing her, she still did not like being talked to like a child. She was sure she was pouting, and refused to meet his eyes.
"Okay."
If he wanted her to cheer up, then he could make her cheer up.

"That is not true either. There is always something to complain about, but I do not always complain."
He reached forward, poking her side playfully. "Oh come on, Marian. We were just teasing each other, you know that. Do not take it so seriously."

"I suppose."
She tried not to laugh when he poked her side, stepping away from him. So it would seem he was going to try and cheer her up. And he knew the best way to make her laugh, surely it was cheating.
"I was not taking it so seriously," she said, exaggerating a pout.

He rolled his eyes at the pout. "That look won't work. I see what you are up to."
Stepping forward, he wrapped his arms around her. "Do not make me have to cheer you up that way, Marian," he laughed. "I think secretly you love it." He had done it when they were young, tickling her until she nearly cried with laughter. He couldn't imagine doing it now though. It was a silly child's game.

Marian grinned when his arms went around her, dropping the bow so she could hold on to him tighter. Perhaps that was a better way to cheer her up, being in his arms.
"I do not love it," she said with a cheeky grin.
If she was honest, she loved when he tickled her, purely because of the closeness.

He pulled back, taking her hand. "Come on, we should head back. No point standing around all day."
All her talk of cheering her up made it obvious she was in something of a playful mood, and he knew he could not fully match it. After what had happened, he had too much on his mind. He had thought he had learnt his lesson when it came to being smug, letting his guard down in a fight. Apparently not. He really hated losing, even if it things did end up turning out alright. If he was honest with himself, he was most annoyed that he had needed Marian's help.

Marian reached down for the bow she had dropped when he took her hand. She had to admit, she was a little put out that he wanted to head back so soon. Then again, the gang were already getting suspicious and any longer she could see them heading out to get them.
"If you think so."

He looked at her, amused. "Yes. I do."
She could be so strangely hypocritical in her moods. One minute she wanted them to be serious, the next she wanted to joke. And it always seemed that her mood was the opposite of what he was thinking or wanted.
"You do not have to look so grumpy, you know."

"Sorry I just...like spending time with you."
She didn't realise that she was showing how slightly annoyed she was at having to leave. She couldn't help it, she wanted to spend as much time with just him as she could. Like they used to when they were young, they would spend the entire day together, sometimes with Much tagging along behind them.

He looked away from her as they began walking back in the direction of camp, unsure how to respond to that, even though he liked hearing it.
"We can't just go and find some cave to hide in until this is all over, Marian. As nice as that sounds."

Marian sighed, dropping his hand so she could wrap her arm around him, holding his waist tightly. She knew they couldn't exactly do that but for a moment she was tempted.
"Why not? Just hide away, we only need each other," her tone was teasing but a part of her actually meant it.

"The fact that we love each other is not enough for England, Marian. As nice as that might sound, we can not turn our back on our responsibilities." Even if he really wished that was what they could do.
"We just have to be patient. Put what we want second for a while."

"I know, I was only teasing."
She grinned at the thought, that he was still willing to sacrifice what he had for the time being. That not even she could tempt him to give up the fight. Reaching up, she turned his face towards her, leaning up to kiss him and trying not to stumble as they kept walking for a moment. Pulling back, she grinned up at him.
"I'm so proud of you."

Robin laughed when she kissed him as she kept on walking, putting out a hand automatically to her shoulder to steady her.
"I don't...really know what to say to that," he laughed. Sure, it gave his ego something of a boost, but he didn't really see that she would be proud. She more often criticised him than praised his actions.
