She knew he was telling the truth, after all this was the first time she'd felt free in a long time. Brushing her hair back from her face, she laughed at his accusation. She believed the exact opposite, she never had been confident in her own skin. She accepted the way she was, but often thought there were woman far more prettier than she was.
"Of course, Robin. My plan all along."
However, her voice lacked the tease she had been using, instead making it sound like her thoughts were miles away and her mouth was letting words out without her say so.

Robin grinned when she tried to control her unruly hair. Sleeping on the ground and running through the trees had not made it an easy task for her.
Robin watched her curiously. "What are you thinking about, Marian? You suddenly seem miles away."

Marian shook her head, not wanting to discuss her thoughts. After all, she didn't want him to know the worries she had as a teenager, seeing all the other noble girls grow into gorgeous young woman whilst she always thought herself rather plain.
"Nothing."

Robin frowned, before shrugging.
"Very well, Marian. Have it your way. And here I was thinking you preferred it when we shared our thoughts. Never mind. If you do not wish to confide in me..."
He was deliberately baiting her, and being hypocritical in the process. Though that fact didn't bother him much.

"And I do not see you so readily sharing your own thoughts, Robin."
She rose her eyebrow at him, smirking a little. He wanted her to share every thought in her head, and yet he was refusing to do the same with her. Well she certainly was not going to tell him everything if he was not doing so back to her.

"Oh yes? The lady is suddenly so bad at remembering things. Did I not only earlier today have the truth of my feelings pulled from me by you with your exceptionally sneaky question, Marian? I am very honest, with you."
He conveniently left off the 'some of the time' that belonged at the end of that statement.

Marian laughed walking up to him. He thought he could pull that out against her, that he had admitted what he had when she asked the question. But that was the main thing.
"If I hadn't asked you, you certainly never would have told me. Not for a while."
Of course, she ignored that he had asked her what she was thinking and she hadn't told him.

Robin pouted, rolling his eyes.
"You don't know that, Marian. I'm sure I would have told you...eventually. Besides, that is not the point. The point is this time I asked you a question, and you refuse to answer me. Is this not give and take?"

"I do not recall me saying to you that you could ask me anything and I will answer honestly. But I suppose you can ask me another question, and I will return the favour."
Oh how she dreaded what the question would be. Licking her lips, she looked up at him, waiting for the question he decided on.

Robin put his hand to his chin, looking thoughtful. He pretended to think on it, drawing the moment out. In truth, he knew exactly what he wanted to ask her.
"You asked me when I first knew that I loved you, so only fair that I ask you why it is you love me."
Robin smirked, feeling rather proud of his question. He was sure she would not at all enjoy answering it.

Marian groaned at his question. That certainly wasn't what she was expecting, but she had given him her word that she would reply honestly. Sighing, she stepped forward, taking his hand.
"Why do I love you?"
She often asked herself that same question. Thinking for a moment, she finally looked at him smiling a little.
"I love you because you are the only man who has ever treated me as an equal, the majority of the time. I love you because as a child you were the only one who payed any attention to me as I am and not as the Sheriff's daughter. I love you because of your courage, your bravery, your determination to do what's right. And most of all, I love you because you are you."
She could feel the blush rising in her cheeks after expressing the reasons why she loved him, and she watched him for his reaction. After all, it was never too late for her to run.

Holding tightly to the hand that gripped his, Robin's smile grew as she spoke. Then he laughed, looking away for a moment before once again meeting her eyes.
"I do not think I have ever had anyone love me simply because I am me before, Marian. It is something of a nice change, I have to say."

She smiled as he did, his smile becoming contagious. She could feel his hand gripping tightly to hers, not too tight that it hurt but still meaning something. That he didn't want to let her go.
"It's always been the way for you. Though, I am slightly worried over the answer if I ask you the same question in return."

Robin laughed. "So that is your question, Marian? How very unoriginal of you."
He again feigned thoughtfulness, before giving her a blank, apologetic look. "It appears I can come up with nothing. Sorry."

Marian's brow rose, and she was sure she instantly looked put out. So...he honestly couldn't think of a reason? Well she took back everything she had said then.
"Nothing?" she said, clearly unimpressed by his response.
She had to admit, she had hoped for more than that.
