Amelia walked out of her house and looked around at the village, the people were miserable but they had to hide it as Guisborne's men were everywhere. Her father and brother were farm hands so they had already left for work and her mother was attending to her house. She had asked her to go and get water from the well. She grabbed the bucket from just inside the door and walked over to the well. She attached the bucket to the end of the chain and dropped it in. When she heard it hit water she started to turn the wheel to pull up the chain.
"Why my father or brother could not do this, i do not know" She said to herself as she strained to turn the wheel.

Even though Will was an outlaw now he still made a point to visit his old village when he could to see how the villagers were doing. Many people, he knew, thought that the life of an outlaw must be exciting and filled with action. He was aware that this was the view especially of Robin Hood's gang of outlaws. However, whenever they weren't in conflict withe the Sheriff's and Guy's men, distributing money and food to the poor, or searching for food for themselves, there was a considerable amount of free time.
Occasionally he even was able to do odd jobs for certain people about town. He couldn't stay for very long, since there was was always the possibility that he could be recognized and or arrested, or even worse. Most days, like today, he wore his old and worn cloak, with its hood hiding most of his features. And since it was a coll and damp day, anyway, he didn't seem too much out of place, he knew. One thing, however, that he was was thirsty. He approached he well hoping to get a need drink of water. He saw that he was not alone at the well however, and the girl or young women was complaining about why she should be expected to draw water and not somebody else:
"Why my father or brother could not do this, i do not know!" Will thought that he should do the charitable thing and help, but was unsure how it would be received. After a few moments he decided that he would take the small risk. "Mistress, excuse me .... but do you need some assistance. I would be happy to help if I could get a small drink when we are finished .... as compensation," he said with a slight smile.

Amelia turned to look and came face to face with a handsome young man. She smiled at him.
"That would be very much appreciated" She said her Irish accent showing with every word. "And you would be welcome to a drink when it is done"
Her mother had always told her to be careful about accepting offers of help as they could have an ulterior motive but this man's offer seemed genuine.

Will was pleasantly surprised by her affirmative response, which was made even better by the smile that accompanied it. He noticed that by the sound of her voice that she was not originally from Locksley, nor Nottinghamshire. However, he found it to be beautiful, as the rest of her appeared to be as well.
"Then lets get down to it, shall we,"and he pulled back the hood on his cloak because it was just getting in the way of operating the lift on the bucket. With just 6 or 7 powerful strokes the bucket was to the top of the well, filled to the brim with the desired water.
"There you go, young lass. If you don't mind me saying, your voice, though quite pretty, doesn't sound like it comes from hereabouts. It sounds a bit Irish to me. I don't have a problem with that, although some might. I find it quite musical in fact. In any case, I used to live around here .... the name is Will ... and if you have any odd jobs that need done let me know. I pass through the village about twice a week if I can."

Amelia watched as he turned the wheel with no problems at all.
"There you go, young lass. If you don't mind me saying, your voice, though quite pretty, doesn't sound like it comes from hereabouts. It sounds a bit Irish to me. His words echoed through her mind. He was right some people would have a problem with her being Irish but not here, the people were quite accepting.
After a moment she managed to answer. "You are right. I am from Ireland my family and i moved here a few years back" She stopped to unhook the bucket from the chain. "My name is Amelia" She thought for a second about what he had said about doing odd jobs. "Are you any good at fixing roofs?, mine is leaking. My father keeps saying he will fix it but with his job he never has time"

Will understood it could be difficult .... adapting from one place you were familiar with to one that you weren't. His only experience was traveling a few miles. She was talking about changing countries. That would indeed have been a difficult transition. "That must have been a difficult change for you to make. It seems, though, that you are adjusting well to a new land, eh?"
He considered her name for a moment. He thought that it was a good name. He also thought it was a positive thing that she had offered her name .... he had not asked for it. "Amelia .... now that's a fine-sounding name ... almost has a musical quality to it. Roofs? ... you ask? Yes I would say I have a talent for it. I was trained to be a carpenter and a builder, as well as a woodsman. However, I will need to know if its a simple leak or something more structural that's the problem. It wouldn't do to do some type of superficial correction without saving the basic problem. is it something you could show me now. It would allow me to figure out what materials I will need when I come back. Why is that, what kind of work does your father do? By the way .... need any help carrying that water, eh?," he asked with a friendly smile.

Amelia listened to Will as he spoke, he seemed a little out of place but she was not going to question it as she was also out of place.
"I could show you now. I only seems to be a small leak but given time it could get worse." She said as she looked over at her house. "My father works as a farm hand as does my brother, so they have to get up early for work which doesn't leave them much time" She lifted the bucket of water and some of it spilled down her dress. "And i would love some help with this before it all ends up on me" She smiled as she said this.

Will often had considerable free time, since the activity of Robin's gang of outlaws was often determined by what the Sheriff was doing to the local populace. And right now most of their activity had been directed toward distributing money and what little food they had to the poorer citizens in the towns and villages surrounding Sherwood.
Will listened closely to both her invitation and the general description of he roof problems. "Well .... most major roof problems grow out of some small ones that were allowed to get out of hand before they were dealt with. It sounds as if a batch of new beech fronds from an area in Sherwood that I know of will probably do the trick."
Will listened intently to her description of her family's work. "That sounds to be fair, honest, but hard work. Do they have to travel far each day? It's quite understandable that that they wouldn't have time or the energy for work such as this, especially if they don't think its a very serious problem yet. Of course I won't know for sure until I'm able to inspect the leak with my own eyes. Ah .... yes .... full buckets of water can be a tricky thing," he laughed, as he took it from her. It was more awkward than heavy to carry, but he was still able to carry it quite easily. "Lead the way, and I'll follow you."

Amelia smiled as Will laughed before taking the bucket from her.
"The have to travel to Nettle stone. Which is quite a walk from here but they do it to support us although to pay is not that good" She said while walking to wards her house. "Mind you it is better than what we used to do back home in Ireland"
She stopped in front of her house and waited for Will to catch up.

It was a pleasure for Will to walk and talk with someone who could smile and have a pleasant conversation. It was different than Much and several others in the gang. It was a good change for Will.
"Yes .... I suppose that would be quite a healthy distance to travel on foot ..... and then to start work once you got there. I'm sure they do what they can to help out. What did they do back in Ireland?," he inquired.
"So ... this is the place?," he inquired. "At least on the outside it looks to be in good shape."

The question echoed through her mind, she didn't know what to say to that. But Will seemed like a nice guy and i doubt he would turn them in.
"My family used to be servants for an evil Irish Lord" She said not wanting to go into detail about how he had wanted to force himself on her. She opened the door and looked in. Her mother looked up from what she was doing. "Mother, this is Will he has come to look at the hole in the roof and he helped me get the water".
Alina smiled and stood up "Thank you, Mister Will. I will take the bucket now" She held out her hands waiting for Will's reply.

"My family used to be servants for an evil Irish Lord."
Suddenly it became clear to Will, or at least in his mind it became clear. They had escaped from to England from Ireland to get away from this 'evil' lord. If there was one thing that always stoked Will's emotions it was the oppression of the poor and the weak. Although she didn't appear to be very weak he hated the thought of anyone being taken advantage of.
Will entirely accepted what she had explained to him about her family. His eyes suddenly intensified in their stare, filling with strong emotion. He replied that, "Its the responsibility of the Lord to protect those who are under him and not take advantage of them, whether its through taxation or some other means. It is the responsibility of us all to fight such people with whatever tools are at our disposal. Its quite understandable why you came here then."
Swiftly changing the subject and his demeanor, he said, "You are quite welcome. Its a pleasure to make your acquaintance .... ah .... of course .... here you are." Walking in he looked up and spied the offending leak in the roof. "That looks easy enough to fix. I'll just get what supplies I need in the Forest in the morning, and do the work in the afternoon, and you should have a drier home, deservedly so," he smiled.

"I could come with you and help you collect the supplies, if you want" Amelia said as she sat down on one of the chairs around the small dining table.
(Sorry it's short i'm kind of hungover. Had an early birthday night out)

Will thought carefully about what he, and more importantly, the gang might have planned over the next few days. He could think ofnothing that might interfere with a project like this. He would have enough time to go back and tell them what he was up to as well.
"I could come with you and help you collect the supplies, if you want."
He thought about her suggestion and considered that it might cut down the number of trips he would have to make to the forest. Plus it would be nice to have a companion along, who was not a gang member. "That would be great .... it might save us some time. Where would you like to meet tomrrow and how early. I have really taken up enough of your time for one day. I expect you folks will be busy preparing your meal fr when your men-folk return."

Amelia smiled at Will. She had not realized how late it was. Her father and brother would be back soon.
"We could meet at the edge of the forest near here at about ten" She said as her mother got up to get their meal ready.
