"You smell okay, well I guess I had not really noticed how you smelled really" Anabelle on this occasion did not want to tell him the truth, but he was quite right he did not smell that great at all, not terribly bad though. She made a slight nasty face suddenly noticing the smell, but she did not think he noticed and carried on with her conversation.
There was a lovely walk she loved to go on in Sherwood, she had walked there so many times that a path had been made just from her feet. She had only ever walked there with her father and sister, she was not sure she would want to show anybody else, as it really was very beautiful, but she had said she should go on a walk and what better place than her path.
"Yes, a walk..... I have the perfect place. In Sherwood, I found a lovely place, it is just beautiful. If you love the peacefulness then you will most definitely love where I plan to take you."
Anabelle was actually rather scared to hear him sing as she did not like hearing people sing if they were not able to do so well. She really did hope he was able to as she did not have the guts to tell him he was absolutely terrible.
" I would like that, If you have nothing better to do that is. Me and my father were just going to collect some wood. If you might remember he works as a timber salesman nearby" She was extremely glad he had offered to join her in meeting her father, he was too always glad to see Anabelle with somebody else as she was very often alone, or with her younger sister Lucy.

Luke smiled; glad that she did not think he was smelly after all. He didn’t like being poor and in a place where he wouldn’t trust the water to know if it was any cleaner than he was. His hair being a greasy mess at times was also rather frustrating, but he wouldn’t complain about it too heavily. What good what that do? It would only prove him to be a bit of a whiner if he was honest.
‘’Thanks very much. Glad someone thinks that I smell alright then being as I doubt I would get an overwhelming majority saying that I would’’ he kindly replied, shooting her a calm and effortless grin. He liked this girl and he was glad that she was being kind to him. If things went all to plan, then he could seem them becoming pretty good friends in the end. That was a rather nice thought too really, being as he had few friends in reality.
‘’When can we go on this walk then? You’ve really wet my appetite for it now you know and I reckon it shall be as good as you making it sound. I rarely get disappointed anyway so it should be all really nice.’’
Nodding, he did indeed remember her father. In fact, he was kind of sure that he had bought wood off him himself when Will was busy and his father could hardly carry anything with one hand, let alone a big ton of word. He seemed like a kindly man at the time, and he just hoped that was not a false impression that he got. Never the less, he was willing to help someone if they were kind to him, just like he always had been.
‘’Well, I have pretty good muscles so I will be happy to help carrying things for you and yoru father. You both seem like nice, good people after all and i have nothing else to do. It will be great helping you.’’
Luke shot her the same effortless grin, and pondered whether or not he would end up in Locksley again. He was attempting to avoid that place as best he could, but if she needed him to carry wood back there, then he could hardly refuse could he? Still, if he had someone with him he doubted it would be too bad. It was going alone that he was dreading.

" Oh no, I am sure many people would agree with me in saying you smell absolutely divine. Okay well, maybe not that far."
Anabelle let out a loud laugh, trying to hold it is as she was not very fond of her laugh, but was not able to do so. She was getting used to his smell and did not really notice it all that much, after all she was used to smelling Anya's awful stench.
She walked toward the chapel door and attempted to pull it open but could not. On her way in she struggled to push it open, so pulling it would be impossible for her. She looked at Luke with her shining little eyes and asked Luke if he would open the door.
"If you wouldn't mind...."
She stood back, as the doors were rather large and she did not really want to get knocked over, she waited for Luke to open the large, heavy door. He was very small compared to it, but so was Anabelle. She fiddled with a loose string on her dress and leaned against the wall beside the door.
"Well, tomorrow I am rather busy, helping Lucy out with apple picking and whatnot. I do believe I am free the day after that though, if it suits you? You will most definitely not be disappointed, it really is the most wondrous place"
She smiled sweetly and thought of how wonderful the forest path really was and how happy she was going to be showing it somebody else for the first time. She had to make sure he would not show anybody else, she did not want the whole of Nottingham using it.
She looked at his muscles, he did not look very strong, but neither did Will and he was in Robin Hood's gang, so Anabelle could be wrong.
"Yes, your muscles will help allot, but I shan't make you do all the work, me and my father will also carry some, it just means we can collect a little more than usual today"

Luke laughed himself at her calling his smell divine. Well, that was certainly a new one he reckoned, even if he knew there and then that she had only been joking without her even having to say that it was a bit too far. Never the less, he appreciated teh fact she was still sticking to the fact that he didn’t stink, which was all he wanted really. After all, when he was an outlaw it wouldn’t matter if he stunk or not.
‘’Interesting laugh you have there, but thanks all the same. You just better hope now that I don’t sweat when I am helping you and your dad out with all this wood, as then you will be quickly taking it back that I smell divine. Unless you like the sweaty smell of peasants however. It takes all sorts I guess.’’
Following her to the chapel door, he nodded when she asked for assistance. Even if it was a large, thick door, he was used to pulling and pushing it so it proved no difficulty for him when he came on his daily travel there. Luckily for him as well, that would mean that he wouldn’t look weak and pathetic in front of his new friend.
He placed a long fingered hand onto the handle, and pulled the door to him with a long, drawn out movement that left him out of breath slightly. He really did need to work on his strength and muscles if he was to become a fearless outlaw, but then Will had never been the really strong type so he reckoned he would be able to cope well enough with it all.
‘’There, nothing to it’’ he said with a smug smile, nodding to the outside. It was beginning to get a bit dark now and he realised that they should get going sooner rather than later. After all, he didn’t want to be walking round when it was pitch black and they still needed to get the wood.
‘’I am fine anytime really to go for a walk, unless it is like two in the morning or anything you know. However, apart from that I will be able to accompany you whenever it fits your schedule really. I most likely have no one wanting to see me since Will is usually very much indisposed and other lads my age generally don’t take much notice of me.’’
That was the truth of it as well, as since he had always been Will’s tag along brother in his youth, no one really knew he had returned to Nottingham and the Locksley area. As a result, he didn’t know anyone who would be too bothered by it as they were never bothered about keeping his company without Will in the first place. He wasn’t unpopular by any means. A tad annoying at times perhaps, but nice enough. He was just relatively insignificant.
‘’Well, I am fine with doing a lot of the work for you and your father. It’ll take my mind of things you know. Always best to keep yourself occupied I reckon, and carrying wood seems like the best way to do it. It’s going into Locksley right?’’
With that he stepped outside, glancing around the various streets of Nottingham which were near to the old chapel. It was a beautiful town really, if poor.

Anabelle did not like it very much that Luke had pointed out her laugh, it made her feel uncomfortable laughing, which she loved to do so much. She went red again, but you probably would not have noticed as she had been constantly blushing all throughout her meeting with Luke. She did not want to made things awkward by being angry though.
"I adore the smell of sweat, It is really....just lovely" Anabelle joked, of course she did not like the smell of sweat, she could not stand it, nor could many people for that matter. She had forgotten all about the fact that she had wanted Luke to sing to her, until she decided to hum to herself and then she remembered. She looked over at Luke and gave him a little grin.
"Do you feel like singing to me now, I am quite excited to hear you"
Anabelle stopped walking and waited to hear Luke sing, he hopefully sounded good. She walked over to a nearby tree and leaned over to pick up a small and beautiful flower that had fallen, she walked back over to Luke and carried on walking smiling at the beautiful flower she planned to give to her younger sister.
"My father will be glad to see you after such a long time. Yes, Locksley, is that alright, are you allowed in Locksley?"

Luke laughed again, like a drain. Like Anabelle’s laugh, his could be seen as rather annoying as well, consisting of very short and sharp sounds that seemed to choke out from the back of his neck. It was a boyish laugh he guessed; even if he would never admit to anything like that in public. He wanted to get as far away from that label of being a boy as possible.
Cocking his eyebrows up, he sent her another boyish grin and nodded. ‘’Well, I guess I will have to get my top off for you then won’t it when I am lifting? Since you like it so much after all.’’
The twilight air flirting with his pale skin, he pondered what he would sing for a moment as she went off to find a flower. He would indeed sing something for her, even if he was not sure what just yet. He’d have to think on it of course, and thankfully she asked him a question which would provide him with more thinking time.
‘’Yes, Locksley shall be fine to go to...’’ he lied, but covered it up well. He wasn’t a liar or anything like that, but he dislikes speaking of his feelings and especially those connected to the deaths of his parents. However, he guessed that he could not avoid Locksley forever and would just have to get used to going there sometimes, sooner as opposed to later.
“I shall sing for you now as well’’ he suddenly stated, smiling. Then he broke out into a particularly old song that his father had sung sometimes whilst working and was bored. It was something about wood and how the toils of a carpenter were bad... or something. Luke very rarely paid attention to his father, considering he couldn’t sing very well at all in the slightest.
Grinning nervously, he anxiously looked at her, trying to decipher what she thought of it. “So... what did you think?’’ he asked.

Anabelle widened her eyes as he mentioned taking his top off. She was not sure how to take this, was he joking or just showing off ? She just laughed anyway and smiled at him. She would not mind either way if he was take his top off. She had only just met him for the first time in quite a while, and he was a very good-looking boy but she was not sure if she felt anything more than friendship there. She was blushing allot though, which obviously meant something.
"Yes, I mean, you can if you like."
She smiled an awkward smile. He sounded as though he was telling the truth about Locksley being fine to go to, but she was not sure that they should, just in case he felt uncomfortable there. She would not want him to feel weird being there or anything.
"Okay, but we do not have to go, we could travel out to somewhere just outside of Locksley. If you so wish, though...."
Anabelle was barely finished singing as she heard Luke burst out into song, she had never actually heard this particular song before, she rather liked it. He was not the best singer she had ever hear, but not absolutely terrible. She liked listening to him sing, she liked listening to anybody sing, as long as they were reasonably good at it.
"I have to admit, you are not all that bad, of course with a little practice you will most definitely improve."

Luke laughed at her response, and nodded at her. He didn’t know how to take the blush, but he doubted that she fancied him or anything along those lines. No one ever fancied him, and his brother was the one girls lusted after. Will was the dangerous and mysterious outlaw after all, and that had untold appeal for the female sex. The fact that he was good looking as well didn’t hurt matters, and even if he had inherited most of those looks, he still had to mature a bit to be considered really good looking.
“Well, as long as you hold my top for me then that will be fine. I don’t mind getting it off if I am honest. I’m a bit skinny but oh well. No one will notice anyway.’’
Smiling at her concern, he would very much like to just put them outside the town as he would just have to venture into that place in his own time, when he was ready which was a rather long way away. Whilst he knew that one day he would have to go back to settle himself, he was also aware of the fact that the place held nothing but a host of bad memories. That was his childhood home, and the last remnant of it he barely ever saw and the other two members of his family were dead. Needless to say, it was a horrible situation to be in.
“I’d like it very much if we were to just stop sort of outside of Locksley. However, if your father needs me to carry them into Locksley further, then I will do that. I’ve offered to help now and so I might as well finish the job properly hadn’t I? I wouldn’t want to leave you with a shabby, half finished job after all.”
Smiling at the compliment of his singing, he nodded. He was alright at it, and certainly better than his father had been, but he had no intention of singing too much. A new idea had sprung into his mind anyway. Whilst he needed to be an outlaw, he wondered if her father needed any sort of assistance on a daily basis. He was not the strongest lads there ever was, but he made up for it in commitment. It would be nice to get a job and earn a bit of money for himself when he had none, and he could do it whilst he was waiting to be accepted into Robin’s men.
“Thanks – but I need to ask you something. Does your father need like any proper, every day assistance? I was just asking as if he does, then I am in need of a job and I have nothing to do in the day. Even if I got paid barely anything, something to do would be most appreciated.”

"As much as I would absolutely love yo hold your top for you and watch you and my father lifting heavy logs. I do not want to make you both do all the work, I shall help and we can rest your top on something nearby."
Anabelle spoke in a slight sarcastic tone of voice. She did not particularly want to hold Luke's top for him. It probably was not the cleanest of clothing. It most likely held many different smells, like sweat and other boyish smells. She did not like to make other people do all the work when she could easily help anyway. It made her feel useless.
"Alright, I suppose we can do without Locksley's wood. I am sure we will find better wood outside of the village."
She was glad that he had offered to help them all the way to Locksley even though he was not at all thrilled at the idea. He obviously liked her enough to travel somewhere in which he does not wish to be.
They were nearing the large tree in which she had planned to meet her father, but he was not there yet so she rested against it, finding it rather uncomfortable and deciding to sit at the bottom of it. She hoped that Luke might sit by her, or else she would feel weird him standing up so high and her sitting down so low.
"Won't you have a seat Luke?"
She began to play with her hair in a slight flirty manner, not really noticing she was doing it. She soon realized and slapped her hands down on her knees quickly, which brought more attention to it.
"I am not all that sure he is in need of any help, but I will definitely ask him on behalf of you. He is a bit stubborn and does not like to admit he needs help. I will try and talk to him about it"

Luke nodded at her sarcastic tone, knowing to drop the topic about her handling his shirt. Although he knew that she was not annoyed with him by any means, he was also aware that sarcasm could very realistically turn into a bit of snapping. Being as Anabelle was one of the few friends he had, he didn’t want that happening either. Perhaps he was looking far too into things, but then that was sometimes a habit of his.
“I’ll just sling it over my shoulder or something. It’s no bother at all and I wouldn’t want you tiring yourself after all” he said with a grin, not being able to resist saying the last comment. He was bringing up her holding the shirt again, but it was only a playful tease and he was sure that she would not take too much offence.
Shrugging, he would certainly not even comment on Locksley anymore before he said that he would rather not go all together. It was a place close to his heart, but far too close for his liking at that very moment. That place was as dead as his parents were, and whilst it pained him to admit it, he knew that he would struggle being in that place.
He was aware that she had said they would not go, but even so he would rather not talk about where they were going at all. After all, he was worried that the conversation might also lead to her saying that they would have to go to Locklsey, and he’d just rather drop the subject completely if he was being honest. This was more than likely far too sentimental, but it was in his head so it didn’t matter too much.
Smiling at the offer to sit down, he obliged and sat down next to his new found friend. The tree was hard behind his back, as he felt it through his thin top but he would not complain. Besides, the pain wasn’t all too bad, even if it could be called that. Rather, it was more of a way of being uncomfortable. At least the grass was nice and soft however, which was rather comfy.
Raising his eyes at her hair fiddling, he wondered if she had meant to do it in such an alluring way as that. Whilst he wasn’t besotted by her, he could see why some boys would be and there was certainly an attractive element to her. Still, he just always blushed if he ever tried to flirt in any type of way.
“Your hair is nice...’’ he offered, before blushing a deep red. It could be called scarlet perhaps, but he just hoped that she would avoid that joke.
“I would appreciate any help at all on the matter. I do need the money of course, but I want the job more of a means as something to do you see. I don’t like spending jus hours of my day doing nothing which I seem to spending a lot more time doing now than I used to.’’

Luke complimented her hair, her hair was not actually the nicest today, as she had been rather busy and had messed it up a bit. She just looked at him and smiled sweetly.
"Thanks, your hair is.....nice..."
Anabelle saw her father walking up the path toward them, looking very tired indeed. He was carrying a small pile of wood, it looked as though he had already began collecting. Anabelle and Luke must have been late and her father must have just left, having waited ages.
"Oh there is my father just there, I will just run over to ask him for you, just wait here"
Anabelle rushed over to her father to ask him if he could help Luke out by giving him a job. She knew that her father would be a bit grumpy, and he may not say yes, but Luke was a friend and it was worth a try asking.
She skipped over to him, holding her skirt up so it did not drag on the ground behind her and so she did not trip on it. She smiled a huge smile at her father who looked very poorly. She took the wood from his hands and placed it on the ground beside them.
"Father, I have something to ask you. Okay, do you remember Will Scarlett and his younger brother Luke? Well, I have recently met Luke and he we have got to talking. He wants something to do during his empty days. Do you have something he could help with. Collecting wood, or helping with your stall. He would not need to be paid or anything."
Anabelle kept the large smile on her face trying to look sweet, hoping her father would say yes. She did not want to disappoint Luke, she saw that her father was no immediately saying no, so that was a good sign. He looked up at her, shaking his head and smiled at her.
"Yes, I remember, good lads eh. Ach, I suppose I can help you and your friend out this time, but don't expect me to help you every time."
She wrapped her arms around her father giving him a massive hug and saying thank you. She leaned over a picked up the wood and rushed over back to Luke to tell him the good news. Though he probably already knew because he saw her hugging him.
"Luke, my father has agreed to let you help, he has not quite said what with..but maybe you should discuss that with him. I was scared for a moment he would say no. He can be a very stubborn man sometimes. So shall we get to work"

Luke grinned when she said his hair was nice, and nodded gleefully. He acted like such a child at times, which was kind of why Will still had to insist on protecting him, but he couldn’t help it he supposed. All his life he had been looked after and so it just came naturally to him to behave well... babyishly.
“Thank you very much, although obviously you have put far more care and attention into your hair than I have mine. I need to wash mine really soon actually, just in case it gets any greasier.’’
The comment about grease was a joke, but he had no idea on how successful it would be. After all, he was no comic by any means but he did at least try and lighten the mood a little bit at times. Will always seemed so serious, even when they were children he supposed, and so he expected that it must have been done to him to be the funnier of the pair, and the one more likely to flash a smile.
Smiling still, his attention soon lingered over to a man who he had not seen since his childhood. Whilst they had never known each other in any great capacity, he was the type of man who talked to casually should he ever needed anything and he seemed nice too. As a result, he was rather pleased to see someone from his childhood who he had not really considered in a while. It was a very nice feeling indeed.
Watching her go over to him, he soon busied himself with kicking a stone lightly on the edge of his boot towards the great tree. His boots were mud caked and tatty looking, but then he didn’t exactly have the funds to go out and buy a new pair just like that. Perhaps Will would lend him his if he ever needed any, as he was sure that an outlaw must have had many sets of boots.
Once the initial interest in the stone had gone, he soon found his attention diverting to numerous places such as what was happening down the street from where they were. A small market cart just rolled down there, seemingly going home from a long day working. Sighing, he couldn’t believe how bored he was...
Perhaps he should have looked at what Anabelle was up to with her father, but he didn’t want to at all. Whilst it would be a great deal more interesting than just standing there doing nothing, he didn’t like to pry. After standing from his sitting position, he had done nothing but look at random things though, and he was getting slightly fed up of that like most normal people would.
Turning round, he soon spotted Anabelle approach him, and shot her an easy smile. However, Luke’s smile soon widened at the news that he would indeed be getting a job. That was far too excellent, and while he knew that one day he would leave to become an outlaw, a job was a job all the same. Who knew, perhaps he would even be able to get a better place to rent a room in then the place he was staying in at that moment.
“That’s great news. Thank you so much and I promise that I won’t let you done. So... when do I start?’’ Luke asked with an eager tone, still smiling widely. It was true that he was very much anticipating it, as he would look forward to actually spending his day doing something productive. “What did you want me to do now anyway? As this will be like a little test run.’’
