overall personality , Djaq is an alchemist which influences a large part of her personality. She is spiritual, religious and intelligent. She has a tremendous amount of faith and loyalty to her religion and to her friends. She has shown a great interest in philosophy and has extensively studied the science of alchemy. This involves the amalgamation of chemicals to create new substances. She is skilled in this and is usually able to create a chemical which aids her at the time.
She believes that everything in nature teaches a person things; whether it be about their destiny, or whether it portrays omens which help an individual make decisions that influence them and others. Fr this reason, Djaq is very in tune with her surroundings and keeps an eye on everything around as (as best as she can anyway, since it proves to be quite difficult at times). The spiritual side of her believes that everything has a reason and whatever happens is the will of Allah [God]. She is a devout Muslim, practicing Islam enthusiastically. She believes in peace, as that is what her religion preaches, and will do what she can to promote it; as well as help those who are suffering with poverty.
Djaq is a sentimental person, especially when the occasion calls for it. She offers emotional support for those who require it. She offers words of comfort and greatly sympathizes when others are upset. As the only female in the group she feels a certainly maternal obligation. Though she is a "rubbish cook", she gives advice and comfort to those who are in need of it.
Djaq is overall an honest woman and prefers to stay quiet instead of rambling on needlessly, with words she knows will not make a difference. This alteration in her personality happened when she was captured, with the intention of being sold as a Saracen slave. She tried to talk her way out of bondage numerous times, with no success. Now she knows it is better to stay quiet rather than show weakness by begging for mercy when she is aware that she will not get it. While she will remain quiet in certain situations, she is also a very curious individual and tends to ask a lot of questions. She is unfamiliar with the customs she now finds herself surrounded by and often mocks it due to her lack of understanding.
She is good at improvising with that is available to her. In stressful times, she maintains a calm demeanor, finding a clever way to help herself (and others if necessary) in that situation. She is protective over her possessions. She is also very intelligent and can read and write both English and Arabic. She also does not like being underestimated because she is a woman. This is one of the reasons she preferred to keep her true sex a secret, but it was accidentally revealed, in a highly embarrassing way. She fears she will be treated inadequately because of her gender, where as other times she will tease the men because she is a woman and was able to do something they could not do. She often has a bright smile on her face, and has a good sense of humor.
If circumstances were different, she would have had a very different lifestyle. That is not to say that she does not like her current way of life. She enjoys being part of a family again, after losing her previous one.

history , Saffiyaa was born into a simple, modest, devout Muslim family. They were not rich, nor were they living on the street. They were more part of the middle class citizens and lived their life humbly. Their family was small, as it consisted of just her mother, father, herself and her twin brother, Djaq who was born a few minutes earlier than her. Saffiya was not a typical girl at the time. She was expected to learn to cook and clean, and train to be a housewife. She constantly burned or undercooked the food, she could not sew, and she did not know the difference between clean and messy. Her mother never quiet gave up on her, but she expressed so much disinterest that she tended to follow in her father footsteps more than her mothers.
Her father was a physician and she expressed an early interest in the profession, so would often watch him as he worked, fascinated with the knowledge he demonstrated. From her observations and multiple questions, she learned many things and this knowledge of her proves to come in handy later on in her life. She also studied alchemy with him. This not only enabled her to mix substances together to create chemicals, but it also gave her a sense of spirituality and strengthened her beliefs as a Muslim. Alchemy is not only a science; it was her way of life. How she noticed her surroundings, and omens that were associated with certain events that took place or were taking place, were what she kept an eye out for, for she knew that it would affect her destiny one way or another.
Her brother expressed no interest in their father's profession, and he would often crave adventure, which was something both he and Saffiya had in common. She was simply more disciplined than he was. Overall, her childhood was peaceful, until there was one massive disruption changed her life and her family's lives forever. When the Crusades were rampant, her father did not wish to fight, but offered his medical expertise. Djaq wanted to help as well, but because she was a woman, she was expected to stay at home and not involve herself in the affairs of men. It was not a woman's place, and though this was repeatedly told to her, she never accepted it and detested the discrimination against women. Her brother accompanied him instead, and the two of them departed. When her father and brother were at a camp, helping those who were wounded, the camp was attacked and he was one of the many victims. News traveled back to their home but because the camp had been close to their land, there was no time to leave. Saffiya quickly took this opportunity to disguise herself as a boy and practice the combat skills she had learned from her brother. Though they were self taught, it was enough to defend herself with. This was the day when Saffiya died, and Djaq emerged. All Saffiya could think of was revenge for her family, against those who killed them when they were not directly involved in battle.
It did not take long for the army to arrive to their home. There were too many, and they were massively outnumbered. All the people of the town were gathered together, and Saffiya, still disguised as a boy, stayed close to her mother with the hope to protect her for she knew that she would get further as a man than a woman. Unfortunately, Djaq did not get as far as she liked. All the woman present were killed right there, including Yasmine. Djaq was devastated, but concealed her emotions for if she fully expressed them, she knew she would be recognized as a woman and would not be able to avenge her family. Though she was taught to practice peace, she could not control the anger that filled her. It was this reason that Djaq had concealed her true identity for so long.
She along with the remaining men were then caged and were sold as slaved. Djaq spend every moment of the journey, praying and trying to create a plot to escape. No such attempt was successful. Their numerous attempts caused the murder of many more of her people, until by the time they got to England, there was just a handful of them left. She was fearful for the life of servitude she was going to be forced into, for if she was discovered as a woman, it would be far more worse. Because she was so worried about being discovered, she kept to herself, refusing to speak English, giving her kidnappers the impression that she was uneducated and could only speak Arabic. Djaq became quiet, and very disconnected.
She had nearly given up hope until Allah answered her prayers in the most unexpected way. Their cage was halted by a band of outlaws, and this greatly fascinated Djaq for she was completely unfamiliar with the way people were in England. This new country with its own culture and customs raised that infamous curiosity in her, and while she wanted to ask dozens of questions, she still kept to herself, her fear still rampant. She had learned not to trust anyone, and even though this was the initial case, the fact that these 'white men' freed her and her people, raised the possibility that they were not the typical Christians she had encountered in the past, and they were not.Such acts of kindness surprised her, for these were the very people that her own people were at war with. From that moment on, she wanted to become part of this group of outlaws who help others less fortunate than the wealthy people of England. This was where she felt she was meant to be, and where Allah had created the path for her to follow. With her stubborn convincing, she did join Robin Hood and his men, and has finally found content once again in her life.

roleplay sample ,
Djaq tightly clutched the small bottle that was once wrapped around her father's neck, prior to his death. Saffiya . . . no, Djaq . . . was still have extreme difficulty accepting the fact that her entire family had been taken from her in a matter of days. Was this the will of Allah? Was this what he wanted? What had they done wrong in their lives? Djaq knew this was no time to doubt her faith; it was now more than ever that she needed it . . . it was after all, the only thing she had. She just could not understand what good could come out of this. Would she even live to see England? Was did Allah have in store for her?
"Allah Hu Akbar"
She said in a small voice, barley audible as it was not above a whisper. She choked back a few sobs that she felt in her throat. She could not cry, not now . . . not when she had concealed her identity for so long. This was not the time to let her plan fall apart. She was going to find a way out of this; she was going to find a way to avenge her family. Islam preached peace, but surely there were exceptions in times such as these. This was a Jihad, she had to fight, she could not stand aside and just watch the murder of her people.
She quickly looked to her side to ensure she did not wake up the other men who were sound asleep. They were all cramped in a small cage so comfort was certainly not a luxury for them. Thankfully, Djaq was a small woman -- or man as far as they knew -- . She curled up against the wooden bars that forced her confinement. She put her arms around her knees, and put her head down on them. In that position, with silent tears streaming down her tanned cheeks, she allowed the only peace in her life to consume her: sleep, and would be content if she never opened her eyes again.
