Margaret was grumbling as she swung the netted raquet and the rug drapped over a long heavy rope. Dust flew from the rug as she pounded it. Despite it being ridicoulos punishment for being late from her trip back from Nottingham, it was quit an outlet for frustration. It had been several days since the mentioned disobedience, but the punishment bled into every day. Something was to be done to learn her place.
She slammed the raquet against the rug again, letting out a loud warrior like sound. "I hate this, I hate this, I hate this!" She growled. Brows furrowing. But she was not alone....

Robin had left Sherwood early that morning with every intention of seeing Mary again. After his conversation with Will about Rowan Hood, he had made the decision that it was best for him to speak to her again. He was also willing to admit he was very much looking forward to seeing her again. She had a good wit about her, and if he was being completely honest, he rather liked how she seemed to view him. It was nice being someone's hero, and hearing about it. He knew what Marian thought of such yearning for admiration on his part, but he could not care. In his mind, it was not harming anyone, so what was the problem?
The first thing he saw when he arrived in the village, and approached the house he had learnt Mary was staying in was a large rug hanging on a rope. It swung back and forward, dust rising from its surface as someone beat it from the other side. And he had a fairly good idea who that someone might be.
At her repeated grumblings of 'I hate this', Robin laughed, approaching her from the opposite side of the rug.
"Tell me Mary. What did that poor unfortunate rug do to earn such vicious treatment from you?"

Mary gave the rug another wack before a voice startled her. She jumped around and was shocked at the apperance of Robin, "Robin?" She blushed, dropping the raquet and then picking it up again. Fumbbling with it. It was not so much the rugs fault, as it is a certain person's fault, who I am pretending is this rug." She laughed, brushing back her hair that was falling in her eyes from the rug beating.
"What are you doing here? Someone could see you." She grabbed his arm and pulled him away from the line of sight of a window on the second floor of the house. "How's your ego doing by the way?"

Robin laughed when she dropped the racquet. Apparently, she had not totally lost her nerves around him.
Allowing her to pull him towards a slightly less obvious location, Robin answered her question.
"I would have thought that was obvious, Mary. I came to see you." Unable to resist, he reached out, using the end of his likely just as filthy sleeve, wiping away a smudge of dust from her cheek. "And how long have you spent, pretending it is this certain someone?"
Taking the instrument of her violence from her hands, Robin dropped it at his feet, as if he had decided the poor Rug could live without more attacks from her. "And my ego is just fine, thankyou. It continues its progress, and shall soon be launching an attack on countries to the east."

Mary pursed her lips, "Yes it is obvious, however I obviously did not expect you so soon." Mary watched his hand warily as he brushed away dust, smiling at the gesture.
"I have beat this rug and others since sun rise, and yesterday Matron had be clean clothes in scalding hot water, which I pretended to be drowning the Matron, as I pretended to beat her to death. I must say though, both items have come out clean from my exhurstion of anger." She gave a cheeky grin, but pouted slightly when he took the racquet from her. "Hey! I wasn't going to beat you with it... Maybe."
Mary laughed. "It can't do any more damage to you than what has already been so obviously done."
"They'll never know what happened, when your ego invades. It'll just hit them one day. Perhaps after a conversation with me it will forced to retreat and regroup for an attack latter this week."

Robin laughed at the repetitive nature of her words. "It is obvious? Though obviously not obvious enough, for you obviously were not expecting me."
Robin reached down and picked up the racquet. "Well, by all means, my lady. If it makes you feel better, whack away. It can only help you in your attack on my ego. It practically withers and dies in your presence."

"Obviously you obviously enjoy my obvious attacks upon your obviously enlarged and growing ego. It is obvious you enjoy my company, for the obvious reason of having your ego so obviously wounded." Mary cackled in laughter, wondering if it made any sense at all.
"I would suppose, you enjoy being in my pressence, for you do set yourself up for your ego to wither and die. It is true, is it not?"
She took the racquet from him, not hitting him. But patting her hand with it, in a notion that she was prepaired to whack when needed. I was startled Robin, I almost wondered if I had met you in fact. Wishing, slightly, that I hadn't - vainly - for the yelling I endured upon ariving late. But nonetheless, I am glad you've come. What pleasure do I owe it?" "MARGARET SIOBHAN! Where are you child?" A voice hollered from the house. The Matron. Mary's eyes grew wide, she put her finger to her lips. "Margaret!?" "Matron, I am coming in now." Margaret turned back to Robin, "She will leave me be now, for I will enter and beg for sleep." She glanced over her shoulder. "Go to the back of the manor, I will be out in a moment."It would be only moments before Margaret would meet Robin, as she would climb down the roof, from her second floor chamber.[/blockquote]

Rolling his eyes, Robin gave in, letting the game continue.
"Obviously it is obvious to you that your obvious attacks have an obvious impact on my usually obvious ego, making it hide away in a rather obvious way."
Sighing dramatically, Robin pretended he was surprised by her statement. "How ever did you find me out? I so enjoy being insulted at a constant rate."
At the shrieking sound of a woman hollering from within the house, Mary's eyes grew wide and Robin looked on amused. "I take it that was the charming Matron of yours you speak so fondly of." It was basically a rhetorical question, and when Mary called back to the irritating voice, it was answered anyway.
"Very well, Mary. I will see you shortly." Winking, he left as quietly as he had approached, moving to the back of the building, Robin looked up, spying what was obviously Mary's window. Spying a way in which he was able to climb up, Robin was able to make it to her window quite quickly, dropping silently through the open shutters to land on her bedroom floor. Leaning casually against the window frame, he awaited her arrival. Delighting in the childish thought that she was about to get shocked a second time at his appearance.

Mary laughed, "I found you out because you do wear an enjoying smile when I berate your ego with an onstorm of bitter words. It is my pleasure to do so, it helps my own ego." She gave him a wink, before rushing inside.
Margaret was caught by the Matron before she could make up to her bedrom. "I need you to clean the stove out." "Yes, yes, yes, Matron. But I feel rather terrible. My head is so clamy." Conveintly it was, and she was still beat red from Robin's arrival.
"Child, you are sorry." She bit her lip, wanting to bite back and say that isn't that what nobels do? "Just go, rest if you must. You are more trouble than you are truely worth." Margaret wheeled around and scurried upstairs, grinning when she was out of site.
She opened her bedroom door, and almost screamed. She looked over her shoulder and then shut her door. "Wait outside. What part of that is so hard?"Her face turned a new shade of red. "Do you frequently invade the bedrooms of young women, Robin?"
She seemed flustered, she quickly pulled some clothes and dresses that were all over her bed and floor. Fine clothes, that shouldn't be on the floor. Or tossed carelessly. She shoved them into her trunk, in a huff. "What if I had screamed, your goose would be cooked."

Robin grinned, delighted at her reaction.
"Oh yes, Mary. I make it a point to do so as often as possible." He could only laugh as she hurriedly attempted to tidy up. "I live in a camp, Mary. In the forest. I do not think you have to worry about how your room appears."
Smirking, Robin walked over to her bed once she had cleared it, sitting down on the edge of it, bouncing on the mattress. "My goose, Mary?" he teased, "Tell me, where is this goose so that I may take it back to Much for supper."
Sprawling back on her bed with his feet still on the floor, Robin looked up at her, now standing upside down in his vision. "Comfy."

She rolled her eyes, "I am quiet certain you do Robin." She stared at him as he spoke of what he lived in, nodding in agreement, "I suppose this is clean in comparison."
"We have a goose in the kitchen from last night's dinner, I could commender in for you. It's doomed to the pigs, when I have to feed them later. They graze and do not need it."
She glarred at him as he flopped into her bed. Giving a playful sneer. "Do make yourself, quite at home Robin. Please." She looked down at his upside down head, with a grin.

Placing his hands under his head, sighing in contentment, Robin grinned. "Yes, this is a palace in comparison, Mary. Perhaps I shall stay for a while. Your bed is exceptionally comfortable. Makes me rather miss my own bed."
Robin looked thrilled at the idea at a possible change from the usual fare of squirrel stew. "If you have a goose that I might take to Much, I would be forever in your debt, Mary. I may even have to kiss you." He laughed, knowing what her reaction to such a statement would be.
Closing his eyes, he acted as if he was considering sleeping. "Thankyou Mary, I shall. You are very kind to offer."

Mary sighed, "You see it a palace, I see it a dungeon. But that is our different points of veiw I suppose."
Mary rolled her eyes, and laughed. "Oh, well then you shall certainly get the goose." She said it teasingly and sounding completely unsurprise, but fully meant what she had said. It was a nice offer. And an unusual feeling bubbled up in her.
Mary pretended to swing the racquet which had been left down stairs, pretending to hit him in the stomach with it. "Don't fall to sleep, I don't know how I'd explain a sleeping man in my bed. Matron would do much more than give me chores for that one."

Rolling over onto his stomach with his legs now in the air, Robin raised onto his elbows and contemplated what she had said. "A dungeon, really? Perhaps I shall have to defeat the evil witch who enslaves you, then we might ride away together."
He gave her a wink, before flopping back down onto his back with a groan, his feet thudding back to the floor. "Truly, Mary. It may be selfish of me, but sometimes I do miss the comforts that I once gave little thought to."
Robin smiled wickedly. "Do not worry, I shall not be detected. I have rather perfected the art of escaping out windows with but a moments notice. Comes with the job description."

"She is a witch, a cruel witch. Do vanquish her, I will not withhold it." His teasing was quite entertaining, but he seemed to guess upon the feeling she felt when he was around.
"It is not selfish, I would miss it too. I can't imagine the forest ground, to comfortable."
"Before you make that exit, don't forget the goose. Your offer, no matter how much it will stroke your ego to say this, but was not to terribly bad. However, I would have to close my eyes." She mocked a cringe. "Couldn't imagine looking at that." She motioned to his face, a wiley grin on her face.
