Since meeting Will a few days ago, Luke’s fortunes had been much improved. He had been able to get a pair of boots and a new pair of trousers, meaning that he hadn’t been left to wander around looking like... well, a beggar. What’s more, his stomach wasn’t growling incessantly either since he was able to get food much easier now that his brother was back. Naturally, he was very grateful to the man indeed.
However, that didn’t mean that he didn’t want to venture out for himself anymore either, and his independence that he had found was something he liked very much indeed. That was why he had decided to go walking around the forest by himself, since he was hardly frightened of outlaws. They knew he was and so they wouldn’t attack him. Of course, he might have gotten caught in the traps they had for trespassers, but he didn’t think he was stupid enough to fall victim to that.
So he continued walking, much happier than he was before. Who knew, perhaps his fortunes would increase even more.

Robin was bored. Not that he would ever admit such a thing, as it was hardly the attitude he should have as a responsible leader, and yet he longed for something interesting to happen.
For days, all had been quiet. Will had left camp, heading back to Locksley, and Robin had yet to hear from him.
So it was that Robin found himself, back against a tree with his arms crossed. He was staring at the nearby path, willing something, anything to happen.
At this point in time he would have settled for Gisborne himself to walk right on up and offer to sit down and have tea with him.

Continuing to walk down the path, Luke hummed slightly to himself, a tune that he had heard some of the drunken people at the Inn where he used to be outside hum. It sounded vaguely familiar then, but he still couldn’t quite place where he had heard it before other than when those people had been humming it to themselves. More than likely, it was just one of those things from his childhood.
However, he soon came to quite a surprise when he saw Robin just standing there, leaning against a tree as if he hadn’t any worries in the world. Though, he was pretty sure that the man did have some worries. “Robin?’’ he said, excitedly. The man was a hero after all, and had saved his life.

Robin's thoughts wandered as the something that he longed for continued not happening.
He was just considering visiting a village, or perhaps the castle, for a bit of excitement, when he was pulled from his musings by someone excitedly calling his name.
Looking in the direction the voice had come from, Robin recognised Will's younger brother.
"Luke Scarlett," he said in surprise, "what brings you into the forest today? If you are looking for Will, I'm sorry to say you've made the trip for nothing. He's back in Locksley."

Luke smiled still, genuinely pleased to be speaking to Robin. He was a nice man, and he did admire him. “I was just out for a stroll really, and I know about Will. I guess that things just didn’t work out then?’’ he asked, interested in Robin’s details of what happened to the two of them.
But, he was more interested in something else, and he couldn’t pass up the opportunity which had presented itself to him. Still, he was reluctant to go on about it just in case he was rejected. That would have annoyed him beyond anything else. “Robin, can I ask you about something?’’

Robin laughed. Luke had a good nature about him that reminded him very much of Will.
"If you've spoken to Will I very much doubt you need me boring you with the details, Luke. What's done is done."
Raising a brow in curiosity, Robin wondered what Luke might have to ask him. "And what is that, Luke?"
As soon as the words left his mouth, it occurred to him what Luke was likely to ask, and he almost winced in anticipation of the question which was coming. He did not know what he would say to the young man in front of him if he was right in guessing the request.

“I guess...’’ Luke said, knowing that Robin probably didn’t want to speak too much about what had happened with Will. After all, he had known the man for a long time and losing his friendship probably wasn’t very nice, and certainly not something he wanted to dwell on too much. That’s why Luke thought that he should just drop it and let Robin tell him his side of things if he wanted to.
Gulping, he decided that he would come out with it as quickly as possible. “I think you have a spot open for an outlaw so I was wondering... can I be one? You need a Scarlett to help you I think’’ he said, wondering what Robin’s reaction to it would be. Somehow he doubted it would be easy to convince him, but he could try at least he supposed.

Robin sighed at Luke's answer. It was not that he wanted to deliberately keep anything from the boy that concerned his brother, but he was sure Will would not appreciate him revealing anything he had said, in the same way that he doubted he would be plesased if he found out Will had revealed anything personal about him to Luke.
Robin smiled at Luke's rush of words that almost tripped over each other. "Do you not remember my words to you, Luke? Take a breath, first. You can apply that to more than just archery." He laughed, before turning to the actual words themselves. He responded, whilst doing his best to not actually give Luke a straight answer, so he could have more time to think on what he would say.
"I doubt very much that your brother would look fondly upon the idea of you joining my gang."

Luke smiled, and nodded. He did need to learn really not to speak all at once, but he wanted to get those particular words out as quickly as possible because he was anxious as to what Robin might say to him, and he was afraid of being told that he was skill less and really just a liability to the group if he was to join them.
When he said that he doubted Will would like him joining the group, he couldn’t let out an exasperated sigh. “I cannot live my life according to what Will thinks I should. He left me to fend for myself so I don’t think he really has the right to talk about my decisions. Besides, I can be useful to you. You can use me as bait, and I can use a sword’’ he said, with a grin, hoping to be persuasive to Robin.

Robin let out a long sigh. He stepped forward from his position against the tree. It was not that he doubted Luke's strength of spirit, or his desire to help, it was more he did not know if he could shoulder the burden of Will losing another member of his family, should something happen to Luke.
"I agree, Luke, that your life should not be led according to Will. We must all set our own course, and choose our own destinies. However, if something were to happen to you, Will would be devestated. Not to mention, I very much fear his vengeance should that be the case." He finished with a laugh.
"I have no doubt you can use a sword, Luke. Yet this is not games in the forest, my young friend. Using you as bait is also very much out of the question. It is a situation that for the most part we avoid, anyway. Have you spoken to Will of this desire? And what has he said? Honestly, Luke."

Luke nodded in understanding. Of course he was aware of the risk that something might happen to him and then Will would be naturally upset by it, but he couldn’t think like that anyway. He just had to hope that nothing bad would happen to him, and that he would just retire if he ever had enough of being outlaw, or found something better to do. He did not want to do it for the whole of his life.
“I think I would be a good member of the team’’ was all he could say when Robin went on about how he would not be used for bait and how it was all not just a game. Rapidly, he was wondering what Robin really thought about it all and whether or not he thought he would be capable enough to become an outlaw in the forest along with them. It was starting to look doubtful however.
When he asked about if he told Will of this, Luke shook his head. “I think he would be glad if I became an outlaw. Fighting for the good and all of that. He would be thrilled and proud’’ he eagerly answered.

"Hmm..." Robin smiled at Luke's words. "Thrilled and proud, you think? Perhaps he would feel that way. Though I think he would also feel worry for you, Luke. And anger at me, seeing as I am not his favourite person at the moment."
Seeing the disheartened look on the boy's face, Robin walked over to him, placing his hands on his shoulders. "I'll tell you what. How about a trial run? You can get a feel for it all, I can see you in action...and Will does not need to behead me with his axe because he will not have to learn that I made you an outlaw without his knowledge."

“I doubt he would worry about me. Will has always been pretty selfish as far as I am concerned. Always taking my friends away’’ Luke said, with a small smile. It was starting to occur to him how much he disliked Will the more he thought about it. He didn’t know how he could have liked him in the first place.
Looking at the hands on his shoulders, he wondered what it was that Robin wanted. But as he was informed that he would have a trial run, he couldn’t help but smile. “I won’t let you down. In fact I bet I will be the most impressive trial outlaw you have ever had’’ he exclaimed, excitedly. “So, what is my first task then? I hope it is something really great and worthwhile.’’

"Will? Selfish?" Robin looked at Luke, bemused. "We are talking about the same Will, right? Carpenter? About so high?" He gestured with his hand, "Apparently cares very much for his younger brother? There can't possibly be two of them."
Robin laughed at Luke's excitement, suddenly reminded of how young he was. "First, you need to take a breath and relax, my friend. We can't very well have an outlaw who can't sit still, can we?"
Smiling, he contemplated Luke's words. "I very much doubt you will be anything but impressive, Luke. However, the next step is the bit you won't like. I think perhaps we should speak to Will."

Luke nodded when Robin was surprised he called Will selfish. “Yes I am speaking about him and I think I know him better than you. He was awful as a child. Always stealing my toys’’ he lied, though he did think the man was selfish now. But he thought he would chuck in the bit about him stealing his toys for a bit of added effect.
However, he laughed slightly when he said that he needed to calm down a bit, and he agreed he supposed. But it was a very exciting prospect for him after imagining becoming an outlaw for such a long time before. He guessed that it was rather natural that he would be excited.
But his happy mood dropped a bit when Will was brought up. “Why does he need to know?’’ Luke asked, pouting slightly. He didn’t want his brother knowing just in case he said no and locked him somewhere, or something to a similar effect. “I think we should just leave it between the two of us you know.’’
