height, 6 ft 2 inches
tattoos and piercings, none other than some scars on his neck, arms, and legs from battles and work
distinguishing features, People will notice several things about Will. First, he is among the youngest of the outlaws. Second, although he is tall, he is quite lean and apparently thin. This is probably a carryover from when the Scarletts were starving, and his mother, in fact did starve to death. However, Will's apparent thinness hides the fact that he is deceptively strong. He has exceptionally long arms and long, but dexterous and strong fingers. Working with wood and timber, and developing his carpentry skills under his father's watchful eye, contributed to that strength.
His favorite tool, or weapon, depending on the situation, therefore, is the hatchet. or axe. He calls them his big and little chopper. He has great skills in things that are mechanical. people will also, notice his eyes. He has a lot of intensity and emotion, and sometimes, anger and frustration that builds up there. He is especially protective of the peasants and the working poor, especially when it comes to the issue of unjust taxes. In many ways he is the conscience of the outlaws. In many ways, given his simple forest dress, has the ability to melt into a crowd with ease, which has been useful when he's sneaked into Nottingham in the past for Robin.
personal style, He still wears the same type of clothing and implements he did as a carpenter: an old weather-beaten cloak, that covers very worn and tattered brown and green articles of clothing. He wears his clothing loosely to accommodate his carrying of his favorite weapons and tools, a large axe and a small "chopper". Additionally, he does not like to wear clothing that draws attention to himself, or would separate him fro the class he identifies with, the working poor.

overall personality, Will won’t speak unless spoken to, and then has something important to say. He tends to evaluate, judge, and make decisions based on whether he feels it is right and how it affects others, whether it be the poor and oppressed, or the members of the gang that surround him. He doesn't like to expose himself emotionally, so he has few close male friends and generally doesn't open himself up to females. He is very protective of his inner space, as well as being physically protective of others. He was affected greatly by the loss of his mother, and the loss of his father's hand, because of his own actions, but does not speak openly of it to others. He is not sure himself if it is because of shame or the desire not to appear to be weak.
He is always the happiest and most contented when he is using his carpentry or building skills for the benefit of others, whether it is ordinary people, or more likely, members of the gang. He is saddened by thoughtless behavior. He is intense, stubborn, and mechanically-gifted. In those few people he places absolute trust in, he is extremely loyal. He therefore has few friends but for those few he is willing to risk much.
Since he feels he is pretty much alone now, he feels that he has to rely on himself and not others. He is distrustful of authority figures and strangers until they prove themselves to him. He does not want to put people close to him in needless jeopardy, and therefore has few that are close to him. He would like to be re-united with his family, but in many ways the gang that he is part of now is his new family. He blames himself, at least indirectly, for his mother's death, but has no one that he can really speak about it with. Will is not very religious, but has an intense understanding of right and wrong, and justice. As far as interest in the opposite sex was concerned, Will believed that he just wasn't that attractive and that his personality wasn't very attuned to building a lasting relationship.

history,
Born 1172 - age 19, Will was the oldest of two sons of Dan and Jane Scarlett. The second son, born three years later was named Luke. Curiously, as it turns out, Will was born only about 8 months after Dan and Jane were married. Will was born in the village of Locksley, which was in the domain of the Earl of Huntingdon. Will, until he was forced to go live in the forest, was a life-long resident of he village. Dan, his father, was an expert carpenter, woodworker, and craftsman. Will and Luke learned much of their craft from their father of course.
Will's childhood was a simple one for a peasant. He enjoyed life, and spent much of his days playing with his neighbors, and then his younger brother when he was old enough. When he was old enough to understand it, Will was taught carpentry alongside his brother, by his father. He soon discovered a love and a talent for it, being able to channel his creativity.
Additionally, a young ward of the Earl of Huntingdon, by the name of Robert, was put under the tutelage of Dan Scarlett, in the same household as Will. Since Robert was destined not to inherit any property it was deemed that he should learn a trade, in his case, carpentry. He was ten years older than Will, and by the time Robert left his apprenticeship Will would be 7 years old. In many ways Robert served as an older brother to Will as we worked in the shop. He made and carved many small wooden toys for the boys as they grew, which was good practice in his craft for Robert.
When Robert was 17, soon after he left the apprenticeship, he was forced to leave to fight in Europe and in the Holy Lands in the Crusades. Within a few years, Robin, who was destined to become Earl of Huntingdon, left for the Crusades with King Richard. Will had always had a kind of love-hate relationship with Robin. Robin was a few years older, and they had fun playing together, but there was always a distance, caused by their separation in class. Frequently Will felt that some of the advantages that Robin had in life were simply unfair. Soon after Robin left for the Holy Land things got bad relatively quickly.
Sir Guy of Gisbourne, with the support of the Sheriff, took over the estates of the Earl of Huntingdon. Through high taxes and other restrictive practices, the people of Locksley were being slowly starved. Jane, Will's mother, being afraid that her 2 boys weren't getting enough to eat, basically starved herself to death so that she could be sure that they had enough. Not too long after that, the boys tried to poached some game, and Dan, their father, the master craftsman who had built half of the buildings in Locksley, was forced to lose his hand. Will, in many ways, blamed himself for his mother's death, but blamed Robin as well, since Will thought if Robin hadn't left for the Holy Land maybe none of this would have happened.
Soon after Robin returned, Will, Luke and another were caught stealing flour. They were quickly sentenced to death by hanging. Robin and a few others managed to force their escape from the gallows at the last minute and they escaped to Sherwood Forest, where the gang of outlaws was formed. They soon began to steal from the rich and give back to the poor, helping to redistribute the unfair taxes that the Sheriff was levying. Will, along with the rest of the outlaws, played a cat-and-mouse game with the Sheriff of Nottingham, in an attempt to prevent his plans from meeting success.[/size]
roleplay sample,
"I imagine he is... doing it for the best I mean. It's not always easy to see that though... reasons aren't always as clear as we'd like, but if you trust in what you're doing then everything works out for the best..." she trailed off and gave him a smile.
“So …. Why exactly are you trying to help the people. Some might say that your method is a bit different …. giving coins to merchants and the like …. As opposed to the individuals who may be so poor that they have nothing to sell. What exactly do you believe in and who do you believe in. Since you are friends with Marian I assumed what side that you lined up on. But often people do not know what they can do and what they believe in until they are under threat. How would you like this bad situation to be solved? Will it be solved just be the return of the King? What ill happen when he dies or goes off ion another campaign. Would it be better to try and come to some understanding with these people? What’s really the best way to solve this and get to a better future? I know … way too many questions … and questions without answers ….. I probably am boring you to death. You see …. I don’t talk much normally, except today for some reason, my mouth is working like my mind usually does in silence …. in overdrive. That’s the way a carpenter is …. He looks at problems very mechanically ad logically. Its just that normally you don’t hear the questions out loud from me. I was taught to listen and not be heard,” he chuckled …. “believe it or not.”
"I don't mind you being talkative at all," she said and laughed brightly. "I'm enjoying your company... and your height," she laughed. The two were kneeling down anyway, so it didn't matter. "I hope I'm not, err, boring you. I don't have as much, well, experience in the whole giving back to the poor thing as you or Marian. I try though," another laugh escaped her lips.
“I thank you for being so considerate .. about my speech and my appearance. You are not boring me ….. I haven’t given you much of a chance,” he laughed. Besides, its not so much experience that matters, but depth of feeling,” he looked away suddenly. “Did you come here by yourself? I would have thought someone would have escorted you here … someone from your family … or a beau or another young noble …. I know that I would watch over you more closely if it was me. Or is that it …. That you didn’t want anyone to know you were here? Is this your escape from castle life …. and here I’ve probably stopped you from enjoying you afternoon fully … sorry. Maybe this will make it worth it …. Here’s the deer that I’ve just finished.” He handed it to her slowly ….. he didn’t want to drop it or have her drop it ….. so he guided it into her hands. As a result he clasped her hand for just a moment, and felt his cheeks get ever so slightly flushed. “I hope you like it.”
