Mary laughed nervously, cringing and looking away to regather herself. "Why would you think I was like this Rowan Hood? Me? Rowan Hood? I don't know what you mean? I only speak of justice, and that I know is not to be spoken boldly in the streets. If you like having arms, and hands, and ears." She sounded scared, afraid that - for some bizzare reason - could turn against her. She didn't want too many people to know who she was.
Mary laughed, nodding in agreement."I can deny being a female no more than you can deny being male. I can beg to differ with perfection not applying to you." She laid her hand on his shoulder. "You are being the perfect gentleman, and are being a perfect help to this town by repairing their fence. Perfect in as much as you can do. She gave a smile to him. She liked him, he had a good heart. He reminded her in away of James.

Will laughed inwardly that Mary didn't do a very good job of shielding herself. "Hmmmmm .... well ..... if you are not Rowan Hood you sure aren't doing a very good job at separating yourself since your positions and attitudes would appear to be quite similar, almost indistinguishable." He sensed that she did not trust him yet to say anything more. He was glad to see, however, that she recognized the possible dangers, physically, to speaking out too loudly.
Will shook his head most distinctly in a negative direction. "I am but a simple carpenter and woodsman and nothing more. And of course, I would never deny being male, but only being perfect in my poverty' My gentlemanly characteristics are only the result of the fact that we believe in being neighborly and helping our fellow man, even with the little we can provide."

Mary laughed, shaking her head, I believe I tried. That does count, doesn't it? Atleast you are not Guy of Gisbourne, that insufferable would not get my time of day. I do not fully believe you would tell anyone, to get me in trouble." She pointed to him playfully. "I did promise to not give you up." Mary gave him a wink.
"Perfection is the best that you can accomplish, Will. I will stand to be corrected that you are being a gentleman at the highest ability you can."

"Yes, but what does it count for?" Will hoped she would be quite careful so that te wrong people wold not suspect her. "No I'm not Sir Guy .... I'm not even the noble type. However, just because he is insufferable, does not mean that e is stupid. Remember, it only takes one mistake on your part to cost you your life."
"I am not trying to be perfect or be a being a gentleman. My mission now is simply to help the people of Locksley in the best way I can. Right now its being a carpenter and tomorrow it may be as an outlaw again. Overall though, I remember I'm not a hero, just a small part of a larger effort that's greater than I am. Someday I'll probably be killed. My job is to make sure its not today, unless its to be sacrificed for something important."

Margaret nodded, "I know, and it has cost someone I cared for his life. I understand what this duty I feel, can do to people. It is risky bussiness." Mary closed her eyes in thought and looked away.
"This conversation has gone around and around, has it not? I shall say you are a hero, then you deny it. I suppose it is our outlook on life. But, what now shall we talk of if not the loop of gentry and outlaw conversation?" She laughed, musing. She gave Will a playful grin, "Is there anywhere you dream of seeing? Or are you content with this lovely little village?"

Will wondered if she had really thought what she did through very carefully. He had the feeling that she simply accepted that there was a risk .... a calculated risk .... and that was all she thought of it. Anything else, he thought that she simply looked away and ignored it.
"Personally, I think you have lost someone, someone very close to you. And in losing them you, at least at some point, felt that you had little to live for .... at least little to lose by risking so much with your own life. If something would happen to you, is there not someone who you would leave behind?"
Will then laughed, "Very well, I will deny you no more that I am a hero. Its only a word and if it makes you more comfortable for you to call me that, so be it. I had little to start out with, so less to risk. Robin had much to lose and much to risk, so I consider him to be most heroic. Oh .... I dream of a free and fair England .... but there is no place that I dream to visit and see, not even London itself. Locksley and Nottingham will be enough for me, building things and buildings and dong fine woodwork will be enough., as long as it is a free Locksley."
