Will felt that Abby was harder on herself and more isolated than she needed to be. "I hardly think that, Abby. I think that you have a lot of characteristics that many would find appealing, if you would only be able to go away from home more, and let more of yourself out. Much as I think that you continue to hold back way to much from me," he said as his dark eyes looked intently into hers.
"Yes, I think having brothers and sisters, both younger and older, would have been good for you. You need elders to lean on when you are going through periods of distress, like you are now with your father. Just as you need some younger ones to mother and protect, I think," he said with a trace of a smile on his face. He looked at her with a questioning look once more, feeling as if she had more that she wanted to say.

"I hardly think that, Abby. I think that you have a lot of characteristics that many would find appealing, if you would only be able to go away from home more, and let more of yourself out. Much as I think that you continue to hold back way to much from me,"
Abby looked down at the forest floor thoughtfully, considering his words, patching together a response. "I used to... things used to be different," she said regretfully picturing the good times. A slight smile crept up on our face as she thought about it, but it faded quickly. "But you know," she sighed, "things change." Abby shrugged her shoulders slightly. "I only hold back what I think need not be said."
"Yes, I think having brothers and sisters, both younger and older, would have been good for you. You need elders to lean on when you are going through periods of distress, like you are now with your father. Just as you need some younger ones to mother and protect, I think,"
Abigail nodded in agreement. She knew that would have made life easier and more worth living if there was someone to share it with. Sharing the pain makes it so much easier to bear. And she had always indeed dreamed of being a mother, and always had been attracted to children. "I think so too," she replied lightly.
It felt odd just standing there and Abby couldn't ever figure out when and when not to make eye contact so her mind conjured an idea. "Would you like to go for a walk, Will?" It was easier to walk and talk and even though she was reluctant to leave the confinements of her yard, she needed to get away for a bit.

Will thought from what she had just said, as well as from what she had left unsaid that she used to be more open, when times had been better for her personally, as well as when things overall were in a better situation. "I think that, though, that much of what you think and believe is important to be said and known. I think that what you have to say is often much more significant and important than you give yourself credit for. I just don't think you believe in yourself as much as you should."
Will thought that Abby's life could have better and different with a group of siblings. Sometimes a persons prospects were enhanced if they were an only child, from an attention and an economic perspective. In Abby case, however, he thought would have benefited from having a group of individuals around her, for her to give support to and to give it back to her. "I can see from the light in your eyes, when you talk about it for just a moment, how good having other children about would have been for you."
As they were standing there it suddenly occurred to Will that perhaps Abby would feel more comfortable having their conversation somewhere else, or that he was preventing her from doing some chores that she needed to get to. And then she made a suggestion that cleared those thoughts all away. "A walk? .... What a fine idea .... is there any particular place you would like to walk to or through. Of course my favorite is always the forest. Where would you like to go?"
